National Association
PMAC’s origins date back to 1919, but we officially became an independent Canadian not-for-profit association in 1955.
-
1963 - The Professional Development Program (P.P. diploma) is launched with
the assistance of
Dr. Michiel Leenders, University of Western Ontario, Western Business School.
- 1969 - Canadian Association of Purchasing Agents is renamed the Purchasing Management Association of Canada and becomes truly national by representing purchasers coast-to-coast.
- 1981 - PMAC is the first purchasing association in the world to develop a
Code of Ethics, forming the basis for the development of similar codes worldwide. IFPMM (now IFPSM) adopts PMAC's code as a guide for its 47 member countries.
- 1986 - Nova Scotia is the first province to register the Certified Professional Purchaser (C.P.P.) designation.
- 1992 - By this time, Ontario (1987), New Brunswick (1988), Manitoba (1988), Alberta (1989), British Columbia (1989) and the Northwest Territories (1992) legally recognize the professional C.P.P. designation.
- 1993 - The first endowed Chair in Purchasing is established through the Canadian Purchasing Research Fund, situated at the University of Western Ontario, Richard Ivey School of Business. The Chair's objective is education and research: including the teaching of purchasing and supply management to undergraduate and business graduate students. The appointed Chair, from its inception, is Dr. Michiel Leenders, Professor of Purchasing Management.
- 1997 - The Canadian Purchasing Research Foundation (CFRF) is formed to facilitate research and establish Chairs in purchasing at Canadian universities - an important step toward the establishment of supply management as a business discipline in Canada.
Manitoba Institute
Purchasing has a rich history in Manitoba, dating back to the 1920s. In 2002, the Manitoba Institute celebrated its 75th anniversary. To recognize this milestone, we held a number of special events throughout the year, including a mini-conference. Read event greetings from the premier and mayor.
As part of our anniversary commemoration the Institute also compiled a History Page, showcasing our long tradition of excellence and professionalism.
